In April 2025, I set off on my first long-distance motorcycle adventure: from London to Copenhagen and back, riding my trusty Honda NX500. The journey began with chaos — broken straps, a frozen satnav, and a frantic start — but soon turned into a breathtaking ride. I travelled through the UK, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands on Day 1, battling winds but soaking in the beauty of open roads and European landscapes.  Crossing into Germany, I explored stunning countryside, visited Metalhenge, and enjoyed peaceful coastal roads to the ferry at Puttgarden. Denmark welcomed me with charming villages, incredible bridges, and heartfelt moments, especially as I rode toward Copenhagen, reflecting on personal memories.  After celebrating with family, I explored Denmark’s rolling hills, historical castles, and iconic cities like Odense. On the return leg, I faced the brutal winds and fast pace of the German autobahns, savouring quieter moments whenever possible.  Throughout the trip, technical hiccups, brutal winds, and long hours tested me, but the journey’s beauty, freedom, and personal meaning made every challenge worth it. This tour wasn’t just about the miles — it was about discovery, resilience, and the pure joy of the open road.

Day 1. Part 1. The UK leg [London to Folkestone]

https://youtu.be/x9IMyBpjhY0

Good morning, Internet. It’s 6:30 AM on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, and after a chaotic start, I’m finally on the road for my adventure. This trip is partly inspired by fellow YouTube creators — a little homage to them. Despite months of planning, everything that could go wrong this morning has gone wrong. First, I misjudged the light because the clocks moved forward. Then, loading the bike in the dark, I broke a strap, messed up the panniers, and had to redo everything. My satnav froze, but a quick update sorted that. As I finally rolled through the narrow alleyway, I knocked a pannier, snapping another strap. With no time to replace the bag, I improvised a fix with spare straps and set off.

Despite the cold and mishaps, I feel immense happiness to be on the road. The sunrise is breathtaking, even from the M25. I weave through traffic, mindful of my widened setup, and appreciate every little sight — the countryside peeking through, a graceful bird, the light breaking through the clouds. Two hours in, I reach the Channel Tunnel check-in, cold but ahead of schedule. After all the drama, I’m just grateful: the adventure has officially begun.

Day 1. Part 2. Calais to the Netherlands

https://youtu.be/f30FvnSdfpM

Well, welcome back! As we leave the Channel Tunnel, I immediately notice how different the bike feels loaded up — way heavier than I’m used to. Still, it’s a beautiful, sunny day and I’m loving every second. My satnav is working again, and as I cruise out of Calais, I remind myself: keep to the right! I’ve got around three and a half hours of riding ahead — probably more with stops for lunch and sightseeing. It’s my first time riding a bike in France, and even though it’s mostly motorways today, I’m having a blast.

The roads are smooth and open, but it’s seriously windy, especially on the bridges. Before I know it, I cross into Belgium without even noticing at first. The land here is so flat, and the wind really hammers me, making the ride a bit hairy between trucks. Still, the scenery is awesome, and the motorway layouts feel so different compared to home. After a quick, much-needed lunch break, I’m back on the road, still battling the headwind but feeling good. Passing through Antwerp’s traffic and a few toll booths is a bit chaotic, but finally — welcome to the Netherlands! Almost to my place for the night now. It’s been a great day so far.

Day 1 Part 3. Onwards to Amsterdam

https://youtu.be/I3XOps_mrFE

Welcome to the Netherlands — our fourth country of the day! It’s crazy windy out here. I’m riding at 117 km/h and the wind’s matching me head-on. Still, I’m loving this. I think of someone who’s such an inspiration to me, @ItchyBoots, a true storyteller, adventurer, and spirit. I reflect that this is my first proper tour, and the experience is incredible.

The satnav cuts out for a bit, so I stop for a quick break. It’s brutal riding in this wind, and the mini rest helps. After sorting the satnav, I’m back on the road toward The Hague. Passing over some amazing bridges and waterways, I’m blown away (almost literally) by how beautiful it all is. Riding through Rotterdam’s huge port and endless tunnels is surreal — no wind underground, just peaceful buzzing.

I realize how much heavier the bike feels with all the extra weight. A few more issues pop up, like a melted heat shield flapping in the wind, but nothing kills the vibe. I make a stop at The Hague before finally heading off to find my cozy little room, and soak in the view. What a day — challenging, chaotic, but amazing and absolutely unforgettable.

Day 2 – Amsterdam to Bremen (GER)

https://youtu.be/YF_TG3Bq694

I wake up feeling refreshed and excited, pack up and am ready to go. The sun is shining, the bike is loaded, and I’ve decided to avoid motorways — mostly — using the Calimoto app. Yesterday was long and exhausting but today feels lighter. I’m still carrying some doubts about being away from my kids for so long, but I’m at peace for now and determined to continue. Riding through beautiful, nurturing Holland, I’m amazed by the quiet roads, canals, and the way everything seems cared for — even tractors have their own lanes!

The roads are smooth, the scenery is lovely, and despite a few windy patches and a surprise bird strike on my visor, I’m really enjoying the ride. After crossing into Germany, I pass through incredible country roads, small towns - one is called Twist, where the nature park was actually full of twisty roads. Towards the end of the ride, I switch my satnav to Waze for a faster route and experience a quick blast on the autobahn.

Finally, I reach my first proper tourist stop: Metalhenge (https://metalhenge.de) a giant steel sculpture inspired by Stonehenge, surrounded by wind turbines. It’s quiet, beautiful, and different. Tonight, I’m heading to Bremen where I meet my wonderful host who recommends a lovely place to get some food by the river then I head back to rest and soak in this amazing journey.

Day 3. Part 1. Bremen (GER) towards the Ferry at Puttgarden

https://youtu.be/yOXuWmMhPNs

It's day three of my journey, and I'm blessed with another stunning morning in Bremman, Germany. It’s a chilly 4°C, at 8AM, but the clear blue skies are breathtaking and lift my spirits. After a friendly chat with a neighbour who showed me his Rolls-Royces and Triumphs, I fuel up and head for Puttgarden, aiming to catch the ferry to Denmark this evening. I take the scenic, non-highway roads, winding through beautiful rural towns and forests. The roads are just perfect for touring — smooth, quiet, and surrounded by gorgeous landscapes. I pass fields, forests, deer, and lovely little villages. The roads keep me on my toes, as although mostly flat, the stunning curvy roads and scenery never feels boring with constant sights of horses, windmills, and even a tank! I pass through a fabulous nature park called Lüneburger Heide (https://map.naturpark-lueneburger-heide.de) and find myself constantly tempted to stop and soak it all in. Time’s slipping away, and I might miss my intended ferry, but I don’t mind — today is about the journey. I enjoy every curve, every sunlit forest, and every glimpse of countryside life. This is motorcycle touring at its very best.

Day 3. Part 2. Pushing on through Puttgarden (GER) to find Tranquillity at Guldborg (DK)

https://youtu.be/yOXuWmMhPNs

With three hours to go until I reach Puttgarden, I feel relaxed knowing the ferry isn’t a strict deadline — if I miss one, there’s another. I stop for a coffee and a snack at a sunny café, then continue, spotting my first sign for Puttgarden, a reassuring sight. I briefly hop onto the autobahn but quickly leave; it’s way too fast for my liking. Riding along the coast now, I soak in beautiful seaside views, quiet beaches, and charming little towns. I cruise on amazing roads, following quad bikers for a bit, and admire the endless scenery — it’s truly biker heaven for those who love smooth touring. My route from Bremen to Puttgarden, avoiding motorways, is simply stunning. I make a final break at a lovely roadside grill, then push on. Crossing a bridge onto the island where the ferry departs, I feel excited. After a short ferry ride, I land in Denmark! I change my camera battery near a beautiful old church and take in the peaceful Danish countryside. I ride through the quaint town of Guldborg, admiring the flags and sculptures, finally arriving at the place I have booked for tonight. What I find here is an absolutely delightful AirBnB in a stunning setting. It’s been an unforgettable day on the road.

Day 4. Part 1. Towards Copenhagen

https://youtu.be/t6klonJEb_U

Good morning from sunny Guldborg, Denmark! It's just after 8:00 AM, and after some microphone issues, I’m finally ready to leave my beautiful Airbnb. The bike’s loaded, the satnav is set, and I’m heading for Copenhagen. I savour the chilly morning air and the smell of the sea as I leave town. After crossing a series of old bridges — beautiful, weathered, and rich with history — I spot a solemn procession of soldiers carrying a body. The moment hits me deeply, and I carry the feeling with me as I continue. The road stretches straight for miles, so I switch from Waze to Calimoto, seeking curvier routes. A quick stop for a delicious Danish pastry and coffee recharges me. The new route delivers — winding through quiet farmland and stunning countryside. I pass beautiful ponies and enjoy perfect roads with barely any traffic. Calimoto impresses me with its rider-focused navigation, even if it’s not the best for timing. Today isn't about time anyway; it's about the ride. I reflect for a moment on my stepmother, who more than 20 years ago tragically died on Danish roads and stay mindful as I ride on. It's a beautiful, thoughtful day of riding through Denmark's peaceful and scenic landscapes.

Day 4. Part 2. Copenhagen and beyond

https://youtu.be/5j5PKdmBYFI

I ride through beautiful Danish countryside, noting the flags flapping in the wind. Calimoto leads me through peaceful villages and farmland, even better than the long, straight roads I left behind. Charming churches and clusters of houses pass by as I get closer to Copenhagen. Calimoto's routing is still good, though it struggles with general information, so I keep a look at Google maps from time to time to see my overall progress. Traffic thickens, and suddenly, I’m in the centre of Copenhagen — grand shops, bustling bikes, bridges over the river, and busy streets. I roll toward the waterfront, hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous row of houses at Nyhaven or maybe even the Little Mermaid.

Before long, I head out again toward my sister’s house, enjoying some quiet forest roads. I'm tired but feeling a sense of achievement — I’ve come so far for my first big touring trip. I meet my sister, niece, and brother-in-law, and we spend a lovely afternoon walking the dog, eating, and catching up. Afterward, I head to my Airbnb, ready to cook dinner, maybe do some work on my YouTube channel, or simply relax and rest. It’s been a long, beautiful journey, and I’m so grateful for it all.

Day 5. Around and about

https://youtu.be/TQxwMJNZeMk

I’m heading off now for some birthday celebrations with my brother-in-law, but I bring the camera along to show you around. Just down the road, I find a beautiful old windmill sitting on a small hill. I'd love to walk up and explore it more later. Calimoto quickly guides me off the main roads onto scenic back roads, weaving through green fields under a gorgeous blue sky dotted with fluffy clouds. The countryside here north of Copenhagen, is stunning — rolling hills, open fields, and those iconic Danish flags fluttering in the breeze. The speed limits shift often through tiny towns, with helpful signs even telling you how many speed bumps to expect! It's a perfect, peaceful ride today, and I’m grateful to be in this beautiful part of Denmark.

Day 6. Flight at Frederiksborg Castle Grounds

https://youtu.be/V_f5S3iDLvw

A beautiful flight around the stunning gardens of Frederiksborg Castle in Denmark. It captures sweeping aerial views of the perfectly manicured grounds, the grand Renaissance architecture of the castle, and the intricate designs of the formal gardens. We glide smoothly over fountains, tree-lined pathways, and symmetrical flowerbeds, showcasing the peaceful, elegant atmosphere of the historic site. With calm, natural lighting and 2 contrasting soundtracks, the video gives a real sense of the scale and beauty of Frederiksborg, offering a relaxing and immersive experience.

Day 7. Just a quick observation of Danish roundabouts

https://youtu.be/YIDssWr_Rmo

I just wanted to show how clear the roundabout signs are here. If you're in the right-hand lane, you can only go right or straight on — and usually, there's even a small surface barrier that prevents you from turning left by mistake. On this particular roundabout, the barrier isn't there, but the system still works really well.

Day 8. Part 1a. From Hillerød to the Frederikssund crossing

https://youtu.be/WyjXlYbFl9c

It’s Tuesday, April 8th, and I’m setting off from my cozy little Airbnb near Hillerød after four great days. The morning is chilly at 7°C but the sun is pushing through the clouds. I’m heading home now, every kilometer bringing me closer. Calimoto is set to guide me on the windiest, most scenic roads toward Odense, with two beautiful bridges to cross. The countryside here is gorgeous—rolling forests, quiet roads, and fresh spring skies. I'm riding my Honda NX500, which has been a fantastic all-rounder throughout this long trip—comfortable, reliable, and fun.

Day 8. Part 1b. To the Start of the World’s 6th longest bridge

https://youtu.be/nkiUmSJie8A

I'm riding through beautiful Danish countryside, winding along quiet backroads thanks to Calimoto, which finds all the hidden scenic routes. It’s peaceful, with barely any traffic—just pretty towns, forests, estuaries, and the smell of fresh timber. The walkers and cyclists are also out enjoying the great lifestyle here passing through little villages tucked into the hills. After riding for a couple of hours, I stop for a quick break, stretch my legs, and check how far I am from the Great Belt bridge to Funen (currently the longest bridge in Denmark and 6th longest in the world). It's windy and chilly today, but the ride is stunning, with misty views and glimpses of the huge bridge towers rising in the distance. Calimoto keeps me on charming side roads, weaving past old barns, churches, and wide-open skies. This journey is perfectly paced, winding, and absolutely worth it.

Day 8. Part 2a The 18km Great Belt Bridge Storebæltsbroen

https://youtu.be/aXOQ8u4EN4A

I ride onto the motorway and head toward one of Denmark’s longest bridges, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. The wind is strong, and I take it slow, feeling like I'm floating out in the middle of the sea, with mist hiding the land on either side. Windmills dot the water around me, spinning fiercely. Crossing the centre span, I realize just how high and long this bridge is. Once across, I ride along causeways over reclaimed land toward the island of Funen. I stop for a quick break by the water, taking in the pretty views and shivering from the cold. The little lighthouse nearby catches my eye, standing proud against the misty sky. After warming up briefly, I get back on the road, passing through Nyborg and aiming for Odense, still enchanted by the beautiful, open Danish landscapes.

Day 8. Part 2b On to Odense Home of Hans Christian Anderson and then Aabenraa for the night

https://youtu.be/hRfOkKDtzjo

The sky is beautiful as I approach Odense after over three hours on the road. I stop for fuel, not too hungry thanks to a big breakfast, and admire the pretty tram tracks and cobbled streets. I park for a short walk, visiting Hans Christian Andersen’s house and museum, picking up a small souvenir. After lunch, I head out again, crossing another massive bridge back toward mainland Denmark. The wind is strong, and I take it steady, following a red lorry. Finally, after a windy but scenic ride, I reach my Airbnb near the sea. Don’t miss the next short (2 minute) video which shows you the stunning seaside location.

Day 9. Part 1. Aabenraa to Hamburg

https://youtu.be/zvY-9Fq_v7w

It's 8:07 a.m. and I leave Aabenraa, ready for a long motorway day ahead, eventually crossing into Germany. The satnav says six hours, but with stops I expect closer to eight. Despite the slog ahead, I feel happy — a sweet message from my daughter overnight lifts my spirits. The morning starts with a gravel track adventure that quickly becomes too challenging for my loaded bike, but it rewards me with beautiful views. Soon I'm on the motorways, cold but managing with my heated jacket. Riding through Germany, I face intense, fast traffic and biting windchill. After crossing into Germany and passing Hamburg’s huge industrial port and tunnels, the journey continues. My hands freeze despite my gear, so I swap gloves and crank the jacket heat higher. Autobahn driving is brutal — constant high speeds and intense focus — but I make steady progress. Now, with over 100 kilometres under my belt and 318 still to go, I plan to take a break soon and decide whether to continue on the motorway or head for quieter, twistier roads. It’s been a tough but memorable start to a very big day of riding.

Day 9 Part 2 Hamburg (GER) to Delden (NL)

https://youtu.be/r2Pf8TzxaFA

I continued part 2 of my ride today, leaving the motorway for a few hours to enjoy some twisty roads. It was a nice break, though nothing so spectacular that I felt the need to pull out the camera. Instead, I focused on the ride itself, which turned out to be a good decision. After about three hours on the twisties, I hopped back onto the Autobahn. And though I was cruising at a comfortable 120-140 km/h I still get passed by Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes like I’m standing still, but I’m fine with my pace.

A little further on, I cross into the Netherlands, and though I don't immediately realize it, my phone’s data switched off when I lost signal at the border, so I had to wait for it to reconnect. Shortly after I am back on track, then leave the motorway for some beautiful country roads. It’s such a relief to be off the fast highways, and the scenery is just stunning — canals, windmills, and even a castle tower!

After about nine hours of riding today, I finally arrive at Thll’s Bed and Breakfast. It’s located in the countryside, and it’s absolutely beautiful. I took a walk outside, had some coffee, and admired the peaceful setting. My room is cozy, and I look forward to a quiet evening. I set off to watch the sunset and just relax before heading out again tomorrow for the final leg back to the UK

Day 10. Part 1. Delden to Le Shuttle

https://youtu.be/rVFqvZtM5mw

I'm just about to head off after a beautiful overnight stay in Holland — a little place called Delden. It’s early, about 7:50 AM on Thursday, April 10th. The bike’s loaded up and ready, and the temperature is a brisk 6°C. Today’s ride will take me through Holland, Belgium, France, and finally back into the UK. I’m aiming to catch a specific tunnel crossing, so it’s a mix of motorways and hopefully a few nice back roads if time allows.

As I ride, I reflect on the little moments — missing perfect rest stops by just a mile and then being thankful for when the timing is just right. The roads in Holland are a dream, open and clear, and I know I’ll miss them. In Belgium, I hit the busy Antwerp ring road, spotting military vehicles, and then it's on to France.

The final stretch is bittersweet — I'm excited to see family but a little sad that this adventure is coming to an end. Thanks for riding along with me. It’s been an amazing journey, and there's still a few hours left once I reach the UK!

Day 10. Finale. Le Shuttle to Home

https://youtu.be/ZeaRMUowtwg

I'm back in the UK, and the weather is absolutely beautiful — blue skies and warm sunshine, a real contrast to the gray skies I left behind in France. It's strange riding on the left again after being away, and the endless miles of 50 mph zones with average speed cameras are just as frustrating as I remember. At least the detour off the motorway onto the A229 brings some relief — curvy roads, lovely views, and a bit more fun.

I hit the Dartford Crossing, filter past slow traffic, and spot a few other bikers along the way — some riding a bit crazier than I would! After surviving the chaos of the M25, I find myself cruising through Epping Forest. It’s stunning, even if the road surface is rough compared to the roads I've just ridden abroad. Potholes, gravel, and bumps make it a challenge, but it’s all part of the fun.

I pass some incredible countryside homes, take a few unexpected turns, and just enjoy the ride home, soaking up these last moments of the journey. No more fuel stops today — I’m nearly there. Thanks for following along. See you next time when I’m back on the road heading somewhere exciting!
